FORN JOENG
"FORN JOENG" FOR HEALTH
Forn Joeng is a northern Thai or Lanna exercise which is adapted from "Forn Joeng Mue" (dance and martial arts of the ancient Lanna people. "Forn" means dance and "Joeng" means skill, or ability) The exercise is fluid and relaxed, but uses and promotes physical strength and power. Fon Joeng for health can be divided into three types: quick rhythm, slow rhythm and prayer. Formerly, Forn Joeng was a dance performance portraying the self-defensive skills of martial art.
It was prized and subsequently practiced among Lanna men because it not only represented their bravery, strength and prowess, but was useful for protecting property and family. Movements were beautifully adapted by each individual performer, creating unique dance forms. Forn Joeng was also performed using weapons and named accordingly,
such as Forn Joeng Mai Kon (wood weapon performance) and Forn Joeng Hog (spear performance) Forn Joeng Mue however, without using heavy implements, lent itself to more variation and subtle movements.
Present-day Forn Joeng For Health movements were developed and adapted by the Network Group of Chiangmai Physicians and the Lai Mooing Group. Jirung Health Village is proud to have initiated this valuable exercise under the Forn Joeng Group and the Forn Joeng for Health's Network, with the slogan: "Holistic Health Treatments from Ancient Knowledge"
